Knight Copper and Ivory Lustre Tile

Finished with casual engravings for a pleasant tactile feel, this one-off ceramic tile exemplifies the iridescence typical of Persian lustreware, handcrafted following an ancient technique that involves the use of nitrates, chlorides, and sulfates (here from silver, copper, and ivory) for the glazing step that also features a second firing in a reduction kiln. A knight is depicted on the saddle of his horse under a nocturnal sky, a scenario paying homage to artist Richard Dolker.
