Colapesce Chele Decorative Plate

The sea-inspired motif gracing this superb decorative plate from the Colapesce Collection in red clay is entirely painted by hand. It pays homage to the Sicilian legend about a half-human, half-fish creature who sacrificed his life to prevent his native island from sinkng after the crack of one of it supporting columns. Enlivened by turquoise details, a sunburst deep-blue motif of claws ("chele" in Italian) stands out from the background lending a distinct personality to the design.
