Cupioli's company history begins with Lodovico Cupioli, who in 1957 founded a small workshop specializing in the art of scagliola inlay, a decorative technique dating back to the 16th century. In the 1970s, with the entry of his brother Renzo and other collaborators, the company expanded and diversified its scagliola decorations.
