A charming hybrid between a modern sculpture and a multi-functional item, this one-off box consists of interlocking volumes handcrafted of wood turned by hand and of prized majolica from Faenza. The natural-finished wooden shape is complemented by domed majolica elements glazed in glossy orange with spherical feet glazed in black. Once the lid is pulled out, it can serve as a tiny, footed vase, also revealing its inner finish of shimmering gold obtained through the third ceramic firing step.

Ennio Nonni
Emilia-Romagna, Italy | Artist
Urban planner, architect, and designer Ennio Nonni was born in Faenza in 1954 where he directed urban design projects for over 30 years. Nonni cultivated his passion for design through his minimal and colorful vases and sculptures characterized by the "faience", glazed ceramic earthenware, combined with themes of futuristic cities, enigmatic but not unlikely architectural fantasies. In addition to his artistic pursuits, Nonni directed two museums (MAP Institute and MUS.T) and introduced incentives for green construction, “biourbanism”, and contemporary art projects in 2019.Discover more
