Albarello Jar with Floral Decoration

This stunning object of functional decor was entirely made and decorated by hand. It is shaped as a traditional Albarello jar with lid, a maiolica earthenware piece that was originally used as medicinal jar in old apothecaries for ointments and drugs. The floral decoration that adorns its elegant silhouette boasts gold and ruby red hues on a white background. The characteristic iridescence of the decoration is obtained with a traditional method, distinctive of lusterware, by firing the piece in a wood-burning kiln three times.
