OTQ

Furniture Maker - Sardegna, Italy

Based in Ortacesus, Sardinia, OTQ is a woodworking atelier founded by Matteo Congiu specialized in cork-based interior design solutions. Congiu’s love of wood began at an early age thanks to the family business “Sud Legno”, a successful wood production company. During his Master in Digital Fabrication in Milan, Congiu explored the relationship between artisan techniques and new technologies. After his debut at the Salone del Mobile 2015, OTQ became a reality, transforming into the present-day atelier renowned for its bold Sardinian identity and culture of innovation.

Rooted in tradition, shaped by nature, OTQ transforms cork into timeless design that honors heritage while embracing sustainable innovation.

OTQ is a design project that emerges from the intersection of artisanal heritage, material sensitivity, and contemporary aesthetics. Its name—derived from the Campidanese Sardinian word for “cork”—clearly reflects the centrality of this natural material in shaping the brand’s identity. OTQ builds its vision on a foundation of craftsmanship that spans three generations, rooted in a Sardinian woodworking tradition where the careful handling of natural materials has always been a defining value.

Drawing on this legacy, OTQ transforms cork into a protagonist of modern design. The material’s warmth, sustainability, and tactile beauty are reinterpreted through a refined creative approach that emphasizes both functionality and emotional resonance. Each piece is conceived not merely as an object, but as an expression of place, memory, and culture.

The company’s collection includes distinctive furniture pieces with names that echo the Sardinian language, reinforcing the brand’s link to its cultural origins. Among them is “Bisu,” the first cork bed in the world, designed as a symbol of well-being and restful sleep. “Mesa,” a table that embodies conviviality, reconnects the act of gathering with the notion of domestic intimacy. “Càscia,” a contemporary sideboard, revisits traditional forms with a modern sensibility, blending craftsmanship with clean, architectural lines.

OTQ’s philosophy goes beyond the creation of design objects: it reflects an ongoing exploration of the relationship between humans, materials, and the natural world. By elevating cork and wood through meticulous craftsmanship and thoughtful design, OTQ offers furniture that is both environmentally conscious and aesthetically distinctive. Ultimately, it represents a harmonious dialogue between tradition and innovation, celebrating Sardinian identity while contributing to a broader vision of sustainable, meaningful living.
