For this superb and highly suggestive oil aquatints on canvas, artist Angus Hampel starts from the concept of the unchanging yet endless cycle of life. The foreground pebbles revealed by the attractive turquoise sea hints at concreteness, while the receding into a vast, dull background - the horizon - suggests oblivion. Tiny birds soar high in the sky and streak across the canvas in flashes, their dynamism enhanced by the gold leaf. The piece comes unframed, please contact the Concierge for pricing and framing options.

Discovering the Artisan

Angus Hampel
Toscana, Italy | Artist
Born and raised in the United Kingdom, Angus Hampel is an award-winning painter and printmaker. With an unconventional background pursuing Classical Studies at Oxford and working as a journalist and editor, Hampel changed paths over two decades ago after passing by an art school in London. He moved to Tuscany, where he still lives and works, to study art at an atelier in Florence. Hampel’s paintings, etchings, and aquatints are studies in visual meditation and contemplation that convey a sense of wonder at the beauty of life, nature, and her amazing creations.Discover more
