Stefania Camilleri
K2-18B Round Painting

K2-18b takes its name from one of the most closely studied exoplanets in the habitable zone of its star, observed for the possible presence of water. Executed in mixed media on a professional wood support and hand-made in Italy as a unique work, it layers glass, epoxy resin, metallic pigments, rare earths and micaceous materials into iridescent surfaces whose texture, transparency and reflections vary naturally with every pour. Vast ranges of blue are crossed by fractures that evoke ancient continents, primordial oceans and lost maps. In the artist's vision the piece becomes a cosmic Pangaea, where scientific imagination meets the desire to understand our origins. Original works inspired by the same theme are available upon request in varying dimensions. Given the nature of the medium and the handcrafted technique, each piece is to be considered unique.
