Design Talent: The Ladies' Room

Discover The Ladies’ Room: a collaborative project founded by Ilaria Bianchi, Agustina Bottoni, Astrid Luglio and Sara Ricciardi. The collective explores the world of contemporary design by creating unique works of art and sensorial experiences with an unmistakable feminine twist.

Founded in Milan in 2016, The Ladies’ Room collective celebrates the spirit of collaboration between women through a synergic experience which delves into feminine iconography, Italian mythology and sensorial design. Ilaria BianchiAgustina BottoniAstrid Luglio and Sara Ricciardi have worked together on several projects, drawing scenarios as contemplative as they are tangible. Their exhibitions are symbolic voyages into Italian craft materials and techniques.

The Ladies’ Room collective takes its first step into the world of design at Salone del Mobile 2017 in Milan with the Fenoména exhibition: a sensorial installation involving all five senses, drawing from the philosophical concept of Phenomenalism - the theory by which physical objects do not exist as things in themselves but only as a perceptual phenomenon situated in time and space. The deep attention to sensorial design is a leitmotiv in the Ladies's Room production, also seen in the multisensory and intimate feel of their In Itinere exhibition: a site-specific project that develops in four symbolic stages with the aim to bring back ancestral images to one's memory and senses.

Astrid Luglio

Born in Naples in 1988, Astrid is an exceptional product designer based in Milan. After working in design studios in Italy and Australia, Astrid founded her own firm in 2018, focusing on design as a multidimensional experience to feel with all five senses. Drawn in particular to culinary culture, Astrid uses her insights in product design to bring unique pieces to life. She strongly believes that everyday objects should be the result of a well-balanced combination between narrative and functionality and her research focuses on the sensory experience that a product can generate.

Agustina Bottoni

Agustina Bottoni is an Argentinian product designer based in Milan. A graduate of the University of Buenos Aires, after years as a fashion designer she completed an MA in product design at NABA in Milan. Her work is quite diverse, ranging from product, furniture and textile design to installations and window displays with strongly evocative concepts. Her design studio combines a freelance practice with personal experimentations in collaboration with Italian artisans, producing small series of objects and glassware that embrace crafts through a contemporary sensibility. Focusing on the emotional value of objects and spaces, her projects honor material authenticity through harmonic compositions of delicate forms and subtle color palettes.
