Exclusive Retreat at White Deer Mountain Lodge

Surrounded by the Alps frame of South Tyrol, White Deer Mountain Lodge is a unique luxury estate with a great deal of charm and exclusiveness. Explore what used to be an antique hunting lodge and discover how it has been transformed in an exclusive cottage characterized by warm interiors and breathtaking views.

White Deer San Lorenzo Mountain Lodge is a charming luxury cottage situated at 1,200 meters and overlooking the Badia, Pusteria and Aurina valleys. Its antique and curious history dates back to the sixteenth century, when the Bishop of Brixen built and owned it as a hunting lodge.

One day, Giorgia and Stefano Barbini – the owners – fell in love with this aristocratic, old lodge and decided to transform it: from a dilapidated property into a stylish and exclusive holiday cottage. After years of loving care, the Barbinis managed to resurrect the old structure, which is protected as a historical monument, and transform it into a the little jewel that it is today.

Entering the cottage, you have the feeling of being at home, in an enveloping warm atmosphere. The scent of pine wood and lighted candles reaches and inebriates guests, plunging them in a relaxing and magical environment enriched by soft cushions, natural wood furnishings and decorative elements typical of the South Tyrolean tradition.

On the ground floor, the first thing that catches the eye is the massive antique entrance door, wisely carved and inlayed. Indeed, the restoration work has been done in collaboration with the department of monument conservation, in order to retain the building’s characteristic elements. The same goes for the authentic and elegant entry hall’s vaulted ceiling – a rare example of the Alpine renaissance style – and for the original wooden beams, still present in almost every room.

All the interior pieces inside the lodge were custom made by local artisans using spruce, larch, Swiss stone pine and natural stone. The exquisite Tea Room is graced with an elegant seating area, plush pillows and soft fabrics. The true protagonist of these environments is undoubtedly the wood, which completely covers the walls, characterizes the more traditional furnishings and feeds the fireplace.

It is sublime to relax, reading a good book and sipping local wine, seated on soft calf hair sofas or comfortable armchairs covered with cushions. The traditional Stube parlor – which can accommodate up to 20 guests – is exquisitely equipped with carefully selected design pieces and with some furnishings crafted by Stefano.

On the upper floor, the guest finds a charmingly designed lounge where to relax around the crackling warmth of the fireplace. Moreover, there are three double suites and a room with characteristic wooden bunk bed for children: in these rooms the local wood warms the environment and recreates a characteristic atmosphere. The suites are spaces dedicated to well-being and quiet: the views over the breathtaking mountain panorama and the warm atmosphere given by the wood make these places ideal for relaxing in the muffled silence that only snow can offer.

On this floor, as in the rest of the house, the use of sublime fabrics and the finest of textiles in combination with a wide array of aesthetic details immediately captivates every guest. An irresistible synthesis of absolute naturalness, authentic craftsmanship, stylish charm and elegance is discernable throughout the White Deer Lodge.

To complete the suggestive experience at the White Deer Mountain Lodge, the Spa on the first floor offers, among other things, the possibility to enjoy an original Finnish sauna, designed and handcrafted by Stefano from 200-year-old wood sourced from a neighboring farm. Another instance of the lodge’s creative sophistication is the conversion of a former goat’s stable into a wine cellar, house of 1,500 bottles of local wines to accompany the exquisite culinary delicacies offered by the house.

At last, in the outdoor area, guests will find the elegantly designed seating area with wooden lounge chairs and blankets made of the finest cashmere. Here is possible to relax and enjoy the large panoramic whirlpool, that offers a unique spot on the spectacular countryside surrounded by mountains.
