What does “Made in Italy” mean to you?

The Italian way of life is to do everything extravagantly and with much care and attention to detail. Anything made in Italy will radiate these same values.

What inspires most of your work and style?

I am so inspired by art and nature. I studied art history and fine arts, so that background has heavily influenced the way I source pieces and the method of mapping out and visualizing a space. A lot of people wonder how I combine all of these wild hues and I say, “Just picture a field of flowers under a blue sky.” They just work together. There is no clashing because it just exists in nature and looks beautiful.

None of my projects feature décor that is mass-produced. Handcrafted pieces do more than simply make a space more beautiful, they also tell a story about where they come from. I want all of my projects to have a narrative behind them and craftsmanship helps me accomplish that goal.

Describe your design approach and philosophy.

It’s all about figuring out which pieces speak to me the most and which ones will fit with the rest of the space. I want the key pieces to both stand out and blend in, which is difficult but possible. I always want to make sure there is plenty of balance in a space so it doesn’t feel too busy or overwhelming. I like designing with a maximalist edge, but not overdoing it.

What is the one décor you cannot imagine your clients or yourself living without?

Amazing art and one-of-a-kind antiques. Art can be interpreted in so many ways, which is what makes it such an important element. For instance, I have a vintage Hermès silk scarf framed in my living room and it is one of my favorite pieces. Art does not have to be a beautiful painting in a frame. Antiques are so integral to telling the story of a space, so I always include a few beautiful and special pieces in each room.

What is your idea of the “ultimate luxury?”

One-of-a-kind pieces are my ultimate luxury because they are so exclusive— there’s only one out there. Being able to find those pieces hiding in antique shops in Paris, Rome, Milan, Marrakesh and Brimfield (among many other cities throughout the world) is such a special part of being a designer. Putting these pieces from different eras and cities together in the space and allowing them to interact with each other and make the room feel more whole is the best part of antiquing.
