Piatto Unico

Ballerina Vintage Ceramic Plate

Image from a 1955 edition of "Uncle Tom’s Cabin”, the 19th-century novel by Harriett Beecher Stowe. The character cheerfully decorates the ceramic serving plate with a small dark blue floral garland on the edge. The paradox between the cheerful homely image and the sociopolitical message of the novel from which it was sourced makes this plate an art piece in its own right. As all ceramics from Piatto Unico predate the 1970s, defects, wear, and tear are to be expected and add to the original value of the plate.
