This vase is made with a mix of stoneware and pulverised lava rocks from the island of Stromboli in Italy. It's unglazed to retain the rough beauty of the naked clay and basalt. Stromboli has been active for the past 2,000–5,000 years. The summit craters erupt with small energetic bursts, containing ash, incandescent lava fragments and stone blocks. The liquid appearance of the rock glaze is an immediate reminder of the fire and heat that made both the lava rocks and the vessels.
