DESCRIPTION

Part of a collection of superb vases and sculptures crafted entirely by hand according to traditional methods, this vase depicts a Moor, a traditional Sicilian subject. The clay is worked on a lathe then dried at room temperature and fired once for 10-12 hours at a temperature between 980 to 1050 degrees Celsius. The enamel finish is applied and finally there is a second firing in the kiln at 920-960 degrees Celsius. The stunning features of a bearded man's face is rendered in elegant details, while the multifaceted crown on top is the lid.
