Wabi-Sabi But No Decal Sculpture

Wabi-Sabi But No Decal Sculpture - Lucia Cavalli

This unique sculpture reveals a profound connection with Eastern and Western traditions both in terms of technique and design. It depicts a hand in the symbolic "mudra" gesture, characteristic of the spiritual practice of Indian religions, holding a triangle, symbol of three-part concepts such as past, present, and future or spirit, mind, and body. Handcrafted of “terraglia bianca” with a crystalline glaze, the hand is adorned with black and red floral decals of Japanese rice paper. The delicate cracks on the surface revealed over time are typical of the Lodi ceramic tradition.
