dAM Atelier

dAM Atelier is an experimental design studio founded by Paolo d’Alessandro and Marco Malgarini, whose work exists at the intersection of architecture, sculpture, and collectible design. Established after the two designers met while studying architecture in Switzerland, the studio develops a rigorous research-driven approach focused on the relationship between form, balance, and materiality, translating architectural principles into emotionally charged objects with a strong sculptural presence.

Rooted in the rich heritage of Italian craftsmanship, dAM Atelier reinterprets traditional manufacturing techniques through a contemporary and experimental language. Each piece originates from abstract concepts connected to gravity, tension, and spatial perception: monolithic volumes appear to challenge the weight of matter, while sculpted surfaces create a delicate dialogue between stability and apparent fragility. The studio’s collections are conceived as micro-architectures, where essential geometries and primitive forms become striking sculptural presences.

Material research plays a central role in the creative process. Natural materials such as travertine, oxidized metals, and solid wood are shaped to achieve a refined balance between structural strength and expressive character. Rather than serving a decorative purpose, materials become an integral part of each object’s narrative, preserving textures, imperfections, and tactile qualities.

Among the studio’s most representative creations is “Tiptoe,” a sculptural table that redefines the perception of stone and mass. Its monolithic legs appear suspended in a state of permanent equilibrium, generating an unexpected sense of lightness. Through carefully calibrated proportions and essential volumes, the piece transforms matter into visual tension, embodying dAM Atelier’s vision of timeless, emotionally resonant design.
