In a Hidden Milanese Courtyard, Tabletop Becomes a Canvas

Rooted in centuries-old Italian craftsmanship yet driven by constant experimentation, Laboratorio Paravicini represents a unique dialogue between tradition and contemporary design. Through meticulous research, graphic exploration, and ceramic experimentation, the atelier transforms patience and technical mastery into timeless works. This article explores the passion behind the process, the evolving artistic identity of the laboratory, and the enduring value of handmade ceramics in today’s design landscape.

A story of excellence in hand-decorated ceramics: Laboratorio Paravicini interprets high Italian craftsmanship tradition by reinterpreting its language in a contemporary key. The result is a variety of collections of plates and tableware with distinct characteristics, the development of careful research and experimentation, and an innate ability to evolve. It has become a reference point for an increasingly demanding international audience seeking quality and refinement over 30 years. Each piece is shaped and hand-decorated from thin white earthenware.

Which aspects of ceramics excite you the most in your work?

What excites us most is seeing the final result of a long process of research, graphic design, and experimentation on ceramic bisque.
When we open the kiln and find the finished piece, with its brilliant glaze and a successful decoration, we feel great satisfaction. It is an emotional moment, especially when the outcome exceeds our initial expectations: it fills us with pride and rewards all the effort and care invested in the creative process.

How does your artistic identity express itself through your creations?

The artistic identity of Laboratorio Paravicini is expressed through a creativity that is constantly evolving, never repetitive, and capable of exploring ever-new directions. We enjoy experimenting, reinventing, and changing tone and style, while always maintaining a strong connection to tradition. Our work is in continuous dialogue with the past, yet deeply rooted in the present and open to contemporary influences. This ability to combine classicism and modernity is one of the defining elements of our workshop.

How does artisanal tradition integrate with contemporary needs?

After a period in which the market was dominated by highly commercial proposals, there has finally been a renewed appreciation for work carried out with experience, care, and expertise.
Artisanal creations stand the test of time and clearly reveal the entire journey behind them: the time, passion, and patience of the artisan, who works with a focus on quality and the final result, regardless of how long the process takes.
