The Entertainment Salons by CH Herrero

Meet the Designer

Charlap Hyman & Herrero is an architecture and design firm founded in 2014, with studios in New York, Los Angeles, and Mexico City. Led by principals Adam Charlap Hyman and Andre Herrero, the practice works across architecture, interiors, furniture, and textiles, considering the built environment at every scale.

The studio has designed retail spaces for Aesop and Moda Operandi, theatrical sets for the Santa Fe Opera and the Juilliard School, and has developed textiles and rugs with F. Schumacher & Co, alongside independent lighting and furniture collections. Their residential work ranges from ground-up architecture to sensitive restorations, often engaging with historical legacies.

With a quietly surreal approach, CHH’s projects explore the tension between how spaces are used and how they are perceived. Through a collage-like creative process, the studio produces richly layered, contemporary environments that engage memory, history, and material experimentation.

The Concept

The Entertainment Salons by Charlap Hyman & Herrero draw inspiration from the storied interiors of Palermo’s Palazzo Valguarnera-Gangi, as immortalized in Luchino Visconti’s Il Gattopardo, translating the palace’s cinematic grandeur into a space that feels both opulent and deeply inviting. Aristocratic splendor is softened by time, with layered surfaces suggesting generations of use and pieces arranged with studied ease. Seating clusters overlap naturally, tables sit slightly off-axis, and circulation flows intuitively, reflecting how a grand room evolves through changing rituals and habits. Upholstery in deep, resonant hues and warm atmospheric lighting heighten the sense of intimacy and quiet ritual, creating a room where elegance, warmth, and history coexist with effortless informality.
