Ischia Dream: Mezzatorre

A 16th-century watchtower, Mezzatorre Resort & Spa is a luxury hotel on the island of Ischia, Capri’s lesser-known sister island. Explore this luxury hotel, and its curated interiors that unfold into the crystalline waters, capturing the charm of la dolce vita.

Ischia: Capri’s serene sister island, has always been attractive for its wild beauty, healing thermal springs, and excellent vineyard. A 17-square mile island of parched tufa and bougainvillea, also commonly known as Isola Verde, for its extremely fertile soils, is one of Italy’s best-kept secrets.

Overlooking the seascape from a rocky cliff, the Mezzatorre Hotel & Spa sparkles above a beautiful private bay, just a few minutes away from the two charming towns of Lacco Ameno and Forio. Located amid lush Mediterranean vegetation, this secluded castle of Mezzatorre has an ancient and fascinating history. The name “Mezzatorre” translates as a “Half Tower” and derives from the presence of an ancient Aragonese watchtower designed to ward off Saracen pirates, that remained unfinished. The initial structure of Mezzatorre Hotel & Spa was first established in the ’80s by the De Lorenzo family before passing ownership over to the Pellicano Group, an international network of luxury hotels.

The strategic location of Ischia offers richly fascinating experiences: Snorkeling and diving offshore, to volcanic thermals and Roman ruins beneath the sea. Mezzatorre Hotel & Spa standing on the northwest tip of the island is the perfect private “harbor” to discover the bay’s beauty, and distinctive underwater landscape, and rich diversity of fish. A complimentary shuttle takes guests to and from the pretty shore-side town of Lacco Ameno and San Montano Bay where the Greeks first landed on Italian shores, leaving a wealth of historic pottery to discover.

11 luxurious suites and 57 cozy rooms are carved out from the old structure, distributed between the tower and the surrounding cottages. The white interiors exude purity, accompanied by the arches and vaults that add a historic character. The simplicity of the furnishings is accented with golden brass elements and blue colorful textiles, recounting the local traditions and artisanal craftsmanship. Ceramic sculptures, refined motifs, headboards, pillows, curtains, and upholstered chairs together maintain a boutique atmosphere.

The stunning Deluxe Suites are Forestier cottages fringed by cascades of green, that offer a view of the peaceful park, just the tonic for a therapeutic vacation.

The Cottage is a dream: a glorious two-bedroom retreat for people who love direct contact with nature. A cool limestone bathroom, a walk-in wardrobe, and a large cozy bed are some of the features of The Cottage. Glass wraparound balcony with cushy rattan creates a comfortable vibe to spend the evenings sipping a glass of Biancolella and drinking with uninterrupted views of the sea.

The large outside terrace leads to a shady path to the pool and private bay. Here, the island’s famous thermal waters flow exclusively for guests, who can relax in the lovely decked pools or opt for incredible treatments.

The La Torre restaurant is where one can dine in style. Combining elements of the island, the décor features shades of creamy whites, deep greens, red tones, and vivid floral block print. Chef Giuseppe D’Abundo at the restaurant wonderfully combines the flavors of Ischia, showing his culinary versatility. Handmade pasta is delicately packed up with creamy burrata from the Campania region of Italy.

Mezzatorre Hotel & Spa, with a unique coastal charm, contemporary interiors, and five-star service carefully curates a magical experience.
