The Impeccable Craftsmanship of Casa Covre

From a delicate seam to intricate marquetry, every detail in Casa Covre’s products is a testament to the brand’s impeccable craftsmanship and tireless pursuit of novel techniques. Founders Matteo and Eleonora Covre come from a family leading in the leather manufacturing sector for over 40 years, guiding their sensibilities and values. Their nautical-inspired home collections are entirely handcrafted, combining fine leather and calfskin upholsteries with prized marbles and wood essences to reveal sophisticated furniture that will withstand the test of time.

The charm of Casa Covre’s creations lies in the fact that they are works of art. Not masterpieces to be preserved for safe-keeping, rather, works of art to be touched, lived and even reproduced, in the handcrafted way, not via mass production. The creativity in their designs, the sophisticated manual skills involved in their production and their distinguishing functionalities; this creates a mysterious contamination imparting a certain sacredness to these works, typical of the world of art or precious objects.
Executed with care and to the satisfaction of all those who take part in therealizationof a project: those who design, cut the wood, weld the iron, shape the rubber, sew leather or fabric, as well as those who frame the piece in a photo, setit out in the catalogue and exhibit the finished items.

Casa Covre'screations are more than mere furniture. What makes themtrue works of art?

Covre is a family name: we are artisans, masters of saddlery. Wehavealwaysworked leather and hideaccording to the ancient art of saddlery. Traditionally, “saddlery” referred to the actual workshop where gigs, saddles, harnesses, and, more generally, leather goods, were made and repaired. When working with leather, the best result is achieved by combining it with other materials – such as wood, marble, textiles, and metal in different finishes – thus guaranteeing a wide range of technical and aesthetic solutions. This allows us to bring out the best of each product, backed by the expertise of a veryrich “tradition” of workmanship paired with the historical Italian excellence of “making design.” Excellence is something we strive for on a daily basis. We start with the project design and desired style, which informs our research into comfort and functionality; all of this comes together seamlessly to reveal the final product: the ultimate expression of craftsmanship. We do not seek masterpieces to be preserved and treasured, but rather objects made by hand that can be touched, experienced, and even reproduced. We use our creativity to make precious objects.

Excellence comes from design, style, comfort and functionality, and from the perfect embodiment of all in the final product.

What inspires your collection’s nautical style?

Given their undisputed value, leather and hide have been traditionally employed for high-performance technical uses and refined finishings. Other than furniture and clothing, these are the basic characteristics of some specific sectors like nautical, automotive, or equestrian sport accessories. As such, it was natural that these specific qualities would converge into a furniture style inspired by elements unrelated to the world of manufactured goods. Leather working has remained virtually unchanged over the centuries, as have its techniques, tools, and know-how. For the most part, it requires artisan skill and handmade production. Tradition is fundamental in our field. The artisans’ hands becomes killed with experience, which provides the foundation to determine the most appropriate solutions.

For you, quality is a value consisting of a series of concepts. Which concepts contribute to maintaining your quality standard?

For us, quality is a fundamental value consisting of many things. It’s work, performed with care and pride by all those who take part in the realization of a project: those who design, weld the iron, make the fabric, but also those who take the picture and print it in the catalog. It’s honesty, not only towards the customer who buys the product, but also in the making of the product. Honesty towards those who work and are properly compensated, not exploited, for their work. It’s health, respect for the environment, for materials used wisely, without waste, without compromising on what’s not apparent. And above all, it‘s the health of those who work with us. It’s pride, to partake in an idea and bring it to life to the best of one's abilities: whether the designer, craftsman or entrepreneur, itis the pride of being able to say “I made it.” It’s excellence: relative quality comes from optimizing production, customization, and price; absolute quality is product perfection. Excellence comes from design, style, comfort and functionality, and from the perfect embodiment of all in the final product.
