Rooted in Venetian tradition and guided by over a century of expertise, Altek Italia Design stands as a testament to the enduring strength of Italian craftsmanship. Since 1920, the company has combined generational knowledge with an evolving design language, shaping bespoke furnishings that reflect both cultural sensitivity and technical mastery. In this conversation, Altek Italia Design reflects on the values that have defined its identity, the art of customization for an international clientele, and the evolving meaning of Made in Italy in today’s global design landscape.

With over a century of history, Altek Italia Design has witnessed many evolutions in design. Which values have remained unchanged over time?
The values that have endured over time are, above all, a deep sensitivity to aesthetic taste—an awareness that does not emerge suddenly, but is cultivated patiently through experience and the legacy of those who came before us. It is a form of knowledge shaped by observation, daily practice, and profound respect for materials, passed down from generation to generation within our production environment.
Alongside this heritage lies an unwavering attention to detail, a refined sense of proportion, and the aspiration to create objects that transcend fleeting trends. Our aim has never been simply to follow fashion, but to design pieces capable of lasting over time—both aesthetically and functionally—embodying a quiet, enduring elegance.

Your ability to create bespoke solutions is one of your greatest strengths. How does the customization process begin when working with international clients?
Every bespoke project begins with listening. The process is rooted in a thoughtful dialogue with the client, allowing us to understand not only functional requirements, but also the cultural, architectural, and emotional context in which the piece will live.
From this exchange emerges a continuous collaboration between our artisanal know-how and the client’s vision, often leading to one-of-a-kind solutions developed entirely ad hoc. Working with international clients also means translating our design language into a universal form—one that resonates across cultures while preserving the unmistakable identity of Altek. Each bespoke creation represents a delicate balance between personalization and stylistic coherence.

In today’s global market, what does it mean for you to defend and reinterpret Made in Italy?
To defend Made in Italy today means moving beyond the label and demonstrating, through tangible actions, the true value of Italian craftsmanship. For us, this translates into continuing to produce in Italy, investing in people’s skills, selecting high-quality materials, and refining production processes that seamlessly unite tradition and innovation.
Reinterpreting Made in Italy, on the other hand, means making it contemporary—capable of engaging with diverse markets and cultures without losing authenticity. It is a subtle balance that calls for a deep awareness of one’s roots, combined with an openness to transformation, ensuring that Italian design remains vibrant, credible, and relevant on the global stage.
