Mini-Architectures by MAS Design

Founded in 2012 by architect Maria Adele Savioli, MAS Design is a Rome-based brand of handcrafted furniture featuring an additional value. Savioli’s original approach gives each piece a signature look. Conceived to be mini-architectures, MAS furnishings become one with the place and the identity of its inhabitants.

MAS Design is a brand of handcrafted furniture located in Rome and created by architect Maria Adele Savioli. Since 2012, Savioli works in the field of design alongside expert artisans from Emilia-Romagna. MAS conceives pieces that encapsulate the close relationship uniting places, identities and inhabitants.

Beginning with the belief that all these elements are necessarily connected; the brand produces unique furnishings – also comparable to true mini-architectures. Each piece is an aesthetic reflection on the search for linearity, on the dialogue between different materials, finishes and colors. Discover more about MAS original approach to furniture-making.

MAS is a design studio that creates furniture elements as if they were true mini-architectures. What drives you to adopt this fascinating vision in the field of interior design?

MAS Design was born from my background as an architect and the experience I gained in interior design, disciplines that deeply influence my way of conceiving furniture. Each element is treated as a mini-architecture, where detail and functionality are given the same attention as a large-scale project. The creative process takes shape starting from the transformation of spaces - whether it’s a home, an office, or a venue - and develops through constant dialogue between the identity of the place, the people involved, and the design language.
The goal is to create true “architectural furniture,” not only functional but capable of enriching the daily lives of those who use them. Designing a piece of furniture follows the same logic as creating a building: it requires relationships, dialogue with the context, and careful attention to the needs of those who will use it.

Each piece of your furniture reflects a strong relationship between the nature of the place and the identity of its inhabitants. How can this connection enhance both the appearance and livability of a space?

A design object born from the encounter between the nature of a place and the identity of the people who inhabit it is already intrinsically connected to the space and its users. It is not just a piece of furniture but something that already belongs to the client and the context in which it will be placed. This union creates deep relationships between the object, the space, and those who live in it, making each piece unique and perfectly integrated.
Even when tied to specific identities, this approach generates objects that can resonate in different environments because they reflect universal values and sensations that people can easily relate to.

For you, the choice of materials is a special moment in the process of designing an object. Which materials do you prefer, and what criteria guide your selection for a specific environment?

The material represents the starting point of the entire design process. At MAS Design, creative evolution revolves around this concept, where the minimalist-maximalist approach manifests in how each material is selected and enhanced. The new collections are born precisely from those materials that I consider representative of the places I transform, capable of expressing the strength and potential of forms. This way, I create works that harmoniously combine tradition and innovation.
I enjoy reclaiming and reusing materials from the spaces I work on, respecting their essence and transforming them from simple finishes into true elements that define spatiality. My research always focuses on materials linked to artisanal tradition, which are crafted to highlight their nature, diversity, and transformative potential.
