DalMoto is a design atelier that merges Italy’s artisanal heritage with a forward-looking vision shaped by contemporary culture and technology. Rooted in a background in automotive design, the brand is defined by a singular principle: the expression of movement. This dynamism becomes both a design language and a narrative thread, shaping furniture that straddles the boundary between sculpture and function.
An unconventional embodiment of a dynamic and fast-paced reality, DalMoto is a design brand based near the majestic Lake Como inspired by Futurist Italian architect Antonio Sant’Elia. Creating contemporary pieces following traditional crafting techniques combined with new technologies, each design is distinguished by meticulously handmade details that enhance their durability and comfort.
DalMoto combines traditional artisanal techniques with advanced technologies. How does the creative process unfold, from design to the realization of the pieces?
Everything always originates from our fundamental principle: transmitting dynamism in our products as a common thread between our background in automotive design and the representation of today’s modern society, which is increasingly fast and frenetic. This abstract concept of representing Movement can find references in the arts—such as sculpture, painting, music, and cinema—as sources of inspiration for the narrative that accompanies each of our products. All of this translates into forms and designs that seek to represent the idea of dynamism. Through the network of artisans we collaborate with, we have the opportunity to devote time to the care of every single detail and to the refinement of the pieces conceived for the realization of our furniture collection.

Each of your pieces has a strong aesthetic and sculptural identity. What balance do you seek between function and form, between an object of use and a work of art?
The inspiration for the collection is certainly artistic, but the function is that of an everyday object. At times, the difference between the world of art and furniture is very subtle, but the DalMoto collection is intended to be used in daily life and to endure over time. Our furniture addresses an audience of collectors who, at the same time, want to live with the product and use it in contemporary homes.

Your atelier is located in an area with a strong artisanal tradition. How does this “culture of place” influence your work and your choice of materials?
We are very fortunate to live in a territory so rich in tradition when it comes to design and innovation. There are extraordinary workshops that have handed down knowledge related to furniture-making for generations, renowned all over the world, and each of them has specialized in techniques of craftsmanship and the use of specific materials. Without a doubt, we have drawn from what the territory offers in order to transform it into our vision of product. From the burnishing of brass through manual techniques to the complex process of waterproof lacquering of mahogany used for wooden boats, everything is part of this transformation. Being in this territory has also strongly influenced our aesthetic canons: the projects of Antonio Sant’Elia or the rationalist architecture of Terragni and Lingeri have undoubtedly contributed to the choices behind our collection.
