Design Talent: GamFratesi

Blending tradition and experimentation with a strong cross-cultural approach, Stine Gam and Enrico Fratesi are the creative minds behind GamFratesi. The studio treads the line between Danish tradition and an Italian conceptual approach, expertly fusing Nordic rigor with Southern European charm.

Founded in 2006 by Danish architect Stine Gam and Italian architect Enrico FratesiGamFratesi is a young architecture and design studio based in Copenhagen. GamFratesi's design is creatively driven by a fusion of tradition and experimentation, with an ever-changing approach to materials and techniques. Their work is a fine balancing act between traditional and surprising, featuring stories, symbols and associations often expressed in a minimalist idiom.

GamFratesi's approach to design is strongly recognizable in their interior projects, where a neutral and contemporary vibe is mixed with local details, often creating hybrid spaces where natural outdoor elements invade the indoor environment. The studio's palette is mainly driven by light or neutral tones, to emphasize a strong use of natural materials such as stone and wood mixed with more sophisticated details such as precious metals and textiles.

GamFratesi aim to design furniture that illustrates the process and the techniques that created it, and which reflect a persistent exploration of the diverse border zone between harmony and disharmony. Their signature style came to life with several collaborations with national and international design brand such as De Padova, Poltrona Frau, Gubi, Louis Poulsen, Hay, Gebrüder Thonet Vienna and Casamania.

Contrasts are often the center of our inspiration. Both in work and daily life we are constantly confronted with contrasts, and we do work a lot with references and respect to traditions in both our cultures.

For Gebrüder Thonet Vienna, GamFratesi designed a bespoke collection using the ancient craft of bending wood and woven cane, with contemporary aesthetic and proportions.

On the other side of the spectrum, the studio collaborated with Casamania designing distinctive pieces with a minimal Nordic allure: clean lines, neutral colors and light, sleek volumes as a clear expression of experimentation and avant-garde techniques.

With an increasing success in the design industry, the duo have received many significant awards including Elle Decoration International Design Award, Finn Juhl Prize, Guest of Honor at the Stockholm Furniture Fair, Best Designer from Elle Decoration Japan, Vico Magistretti Award by De Padova and more.
