Patria Palace: a Baroque Jewel in Lecce

Elegant and opulent, Patria Palace is a historic residence with noble origins, located in the heart of Lecce and surrounded by the most majestic pieces of Baroque art of the city. Discover the noble soul of the Palace and its long history that spans over three centuries.

Patria Palace is a historic hotel in the heart of Lecce, surrounded by great works of Baroque architecture and spectacular examples of superior craftsmanship, dating back to the early 18th century. The past of this majestic residence is full of evolutions, which have seen it transform and change function, experiencing different souls, all devoted to hospitality: the noble residence was first converted into an orphanage for local children, then into an inn for travelers and finally into a luxury hotel.

The opulent image of Patria Palace dates back to when the marquises d’Anna Petrarolo decided to entrust the construction of their home to the acclaimed Baroque architect Mauro Manieri. He conceived the current building, nestled in the center of the Apulian town, in the pretty Piazzetta Ricciardi and right in front of the spectacular Basilica of Santa Croce. Those who are lucky enough to visit this place can really breathe the history and beauty in which it is bathed.

The classic and elegant style of the external architecture blends with the modern and sober interiors, characterized by a luxurious but clean design to emphasize the splendid construction details of the building. Authentic coffered ceilings in carved wood are reflected on the antique marble floors, rich in decorations and masterfully restored. Stained glass windows, finely decorated with colorful flower motifs, recall the Baroque style and, at the same time, the artistic and classic heritage of the palace has been enriched with new details by Italian designers and local artisans.

A modern elegance and a welcoming atmosphere welcome the guest at Patria Palace while stunning views of the surrounding architecture and the majestic Basilica offers the perfect framework for a romantic stay. Inside, the palace is enriched with frescoes and Art-Deco elements. Visiting the palace is like traveling back in time: the paintings, the architectural ornaments in Lecce stone and wood and the elaborate hand-painted ceiling contribute to create an elegant and welcoming atmosphere in which classic and modern blend with harmony and style. Each of the rooms and suites is personalized by mural frescoes by John Duggan, an American artist and architect and a master of trompe-l’oeil wall painting, who moved to Italy for over 30 years.

Your stay at Patria Palace is not complete without savoring the taste of Apulian specialties at Atenze Restaurant. The dedicated terrace is a slice of heaven from which you can enjoy one of the most beautiful views of the city, a privileged position in the heart of Lecce with the majesty of Baroque art within arm’s reach. Rich and authentic flavors typical of southern Italy alternate with more international inspirations, characterized by local high-quality ingredients.

The city of Lecce is one of a kind, it has existed for more than two thousand years and has a long history to tell. Starting from the privileged position of the Patria Palace, it is possible to visit the entire historic center and get lost in the narrow white alleys, full of romantic restaurants, small shops and splendid masterpieces of eighteenth-century art and architecture.
