​The award winning and internationally acclaimed designer Karim Rashid was born in Cairo, Egypt, in 1960 to Egyptian and English parents. He was raised in Canada, and attended the Carleton University in Ottawa, where he received a BA in Industrial Design in 1982. He them went on to attend school in Naples, Italy with ​Ettore Sottsass and others. Karim Rashid then worked at Rodolfo Bonetto Studio in Milan and with KAN Industrial Designers in Canada for seven years. In 1992 Karim Rashid opens his private design studio in New York City - where he still works as one of the most prolific designers of his generation with 3000 designs in production, over 300 awards and working in over 40 countries.

His designs include luxury goods, furniture, lighting, surface design, brand identity and packaging. Of particularly importance the Garbo waste can, the Oh Chair for Umbra, a concept store for Giorgio Armani, perfume bottles for Kenzo, bobble water bottle, watches and tableware for Alessi, lighting for Artemide and products for Veuve Clicquot, to name a few.
In addition, his interiors of the Morimoto restaurant in Philadelphia; the award-winning Semiramis Hotel in Athens and the Nhow Hotel in Berlin have expanded Rashid 's success to architecture and interior design.

​Karim Rashid's designs can be seen in the permanent exhibitions of fourteen museums all over the world, including: The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and the Centre Pompidouin in Paris. Karim Rashid has been awarded with many awards, including: the Red Dot award, the I.D. Magazine Annual Design Review, the IDSA Industrial Design Excellence award, and the Chicago Athenaeum Good Design award.
