Discover the entryway of L’Appartamento curated by T.ZED Architects for Artemest. The Dubai based studio imagined an ideal entrance to a personalized home that pays attention to lighting, detail, and textures. T.ZED invites the visitor to look through a moment in time of a private space that tells a particular story of temporality and exploration.
Tarik Zaharna grew up in Luxembourg before moving to London and earning his degree from The Bartlett School of Architecture. With a varied portfolio of projects across Europe, North America and the Middle East, Zaharna founded T.ZED Architects in Dubai in 2015, and expanded the business to Luxembourg, in 2020.
The practice’s philosophy aligns with conceiving Architecture as a craft that responds to programme, culture, and context, as well as design language that translates human needs, values and behaviors. T.ZED Architects forward-thinking vision of contributing to the ‘evolution of the local Architecture’ allows the practice to investigate local heritage and culture, whilst devising a modern design language that is applicable around the world.
We always aim for timelessness in our projects, whether interiors or architectural. A sense of exploration and delayering of experiences is a key driver in our approach in order to create tailor-made and bespoke spaces that stand the test of time.
For L’Appartamento, T.ZED Architects wanted to set the tone for what is yet to come. The studio imagined an ideal entrance to a personalized home that pays attention to lighting, detail, and textures. T.ZED invites the visitor to look through a moment in time of a private space that tells a particular story of ‘temporality and exploration’.
For T.ZED it was extremely important to retain the character of the room while trying to add to it. While designing the entryway the studio was conscious of the historical significance of this building and space, and wanted to remind visitors of this through the use of mirrors, such as the Sybilla Mirror with Console by Ettore Sottsass for Glas Italia and the Itaca Floor Mirror by Atlas Project. This also helps in visually enlarging the room and multiplying the amount of light it receives. The intention behind the design is to showcase ‘moments’, ‘elevations’ and ‘corners’ that can either be experienced in isolation or as part of the entire room that is unified via large rugs while showcasing the original wooden floors.
We invite the visitor to look through a moment in time of a private space that tells a particular story of temporality and exploration.
