Visit Artemest Galleria to explore the exhibition curated by Dimorestudio. A museum-like exhibit featuring a capsule of one-of-a-kind furniture designed by the Milanese studio exclusively for Artemest.
Dimorestudio, the architecture and interior design studio founded by Britt Moran and Emiliano Salci, celebrates its 20th anniversary and, among the events planned throughout 2023, one of the highlights is the full takeover of Artemest Galleria New York. The designer duo presents WEST CHELSEA, a museum-like exhibition featuring an exclusive capsule collection of one-of-a-kind furniture pieces designed by Dimorestudio, as well as a curated selection of Artemest pieces hand-picked by the Milan-based studio.
The mood of the exhibition was inspired by the America of the 1960s and 1970s, both in terms of colors and furniture finishes. The reference of the project are the large American working environments of that period, those of Billy Wilder's 1960 film "The Apartment" or Colin Higgins' 1980 film "Nine to Five".
For WEST CHELSEA, Dimorestudio has transformed the gallery shell: walls and ceilings are painted in a warm olive-green hue and the floor is completely covered with a carpet by Pierre Frey for Dimorestudio, featuring an iconic print of the Milanese studio, the Dacia. The pattern has been designed to be resemble a timeworn texture whose history is made visible through the layers of footprints and stains that define its past, as if it had been cut out of another environment and brought inside the gallery.
Art, collecting, and design icons are the three concepts that best describe Dimorestudio’s curatorship for the Artemest Galleria and that underscore what Artemest itself stands for.
WEST CHELSEA by Dimorestudio features collector items, rather than furnishing accessories. The installation is free and does not follow the criteria of a setting: the eleven one of a kind pieces of furniture designed by Dimorestudio are arranged in a museum-like way, as if they were works of art.
Beyond the main gallery Dimorestudio has curated the two other exhibition spaces as functional rooms where white, black, and steel reign. Here the workspace concept is made more evident by the selection of iconic brands of Italian industrial design, including BBB Italia, Cassina, Cappellini, Driade, La Permanente Mobili Cantù, Martinelli Luce, Matrix International, Tecno Spa, Tato, and Ynterior. According to Dimorestudio these brands should be a part of every environment because they communicate the history of design and give personality to interiors. The installation also includes artwork by a selection of Artemest artists, including sculptures by Benedetto Ferraro, tapestry by Caterina Frongia, paintings by Maurizia Carantani, photographs by Luca Capuano and design books by L'Artiere.

Founded in Milan in 2003 by Britt Moran and Emiliano Salci, Dimorestudio is a global architectural and design studio that spans residential, retail and hospitality projects, in addition to furnishings, textile and lighting designs under the name of Dimoremilano. Dimorecentrale, the new headquarter, is the heart of the business for the 40-plus person team as well as for Dimoregallery, the evocative setting which features rotating installations and collections of the great masters of the 20th century and contemporary designers since 2014.
Moran, a North Carolina-born former graphic designer, and Salci, a former art director at Cappellini who was born in Arezzo in Tuscany, are a perfect fusion of talents. The story of their journey began in the same Milan location where Dimorestudio currently operates and it developed and grew – year after year – thanks to a skilful combination of decoration, objects, modern art, important mid-century pieces, and finally, elements and spaces that they designed and produced themselves.
Dimorestudio interprets memories and creates dreams. They are storytellers and experience builders, creating designs and atmospheres that recollect. A juxtaposition of contexts, spaces and elements that evoke emotion. A nonlinear narrative blurring nostalgia, present sensations and hopes. Pairing, mixing and matching different time periods using artisanal techniques transmitted through generations.
