The Artisans

Alberto and Paolo Sala with Federico Ferrari created Edizioni Design in Milano out of a common passion for design and architecture. Their objects are minimalist, with shapes strongly linked to their functions, while the technology used is deliberately “lo-fi” and employs stones and metals with different and precious finishes. The result is something that they call “naked design”: sleek pieces that are also evocative and full of emotions.

Matteo Tagliapietra began as a young apprentice at the esteemed Gambaro & Poggi glass workshop in Murano, under the expert guidance of master Mario Gambaro. He soon proved his talent and became a "master" at the age of 21. In 2015 Matteo started, together with Luciano Gambaro, the new company Gambaro & Tagliapietra. From here begins a new journey, a stimulating project aimed at establishing him as an undisputed master glassmaker, but at the same time a promoter and inspirer, together with Luciano Gambaro, of lines, styles, and contamination to make the millenary art of Murano glass flourish and innovate.

In 1956, after working for years in an umbrella-factory in Milan, Ernesta Pasotti opened her own workshop in her village of Castellucchio, by Mantua. Now, the new family generation keeps making splendid umbrellas using an artisanal method in combination with the finest Italian fabric, woods and brass. These exquisitely decorated, entirely hand-made unique pieces are sold to the best stores worldwide while maintaining the Italian tradition of the artisanal production of umbrellas. The Castelli family started making ebony pieces in Bologna at the beginning of the 20th century. Now the brand Paolo Castelli still makes custom-made furniture using an artisanal method and creates sophisticated collections distinguished by great care for details and materials thanks to the collaboration with prestigious designers and the finest Italian craftsmen.

Melissa Lunardi and Massimo Tonetto are two designers who have being working with Murano glass and lights independently since the late 90s. In 2013 they founded Venice M, a company that creates unique, hand-made lighting and custom-made designs for clients worldwide, mixing innovation and the great tradition of Italian craftsmanship.

A brand that combines the refined taste of timeless elegance with the manufacturing excellence of Made in Italy. Authentic beauty and recognizable déco style are the concrete expressions that have always distinguished the refined design of its products, which come to life in the Vicenza district. Marco Gaviraghi Calloni is an artist with a passion for the artisanal tradition of industrial design. His objects are meticulously hand made in raw iron and corten steel and the various colors and irregularity of their surface change in time in a constant transformation process. These are everyday objects seen through the eyes of an artist and rigorously built around the fundamentals of geometry.

Giuseppe Rivadossi was born in 1935. His first sculpture exhibition was in 1968 and since then his work has been featured in important anthological expositions and art catalogues. With his sons Emanuele and Clemente, he now manages Habito di Giuseppe Rivadossi, an atelier and workshop where his pieces come to life, where wood is hand worked, and assembled predominantly through joints to obtain objects that are both poetic and domestic, ancient and light, material and ethereal.

Silia is a luxury brand born in 2011 from the skillful craftsmanship of I&S, a Florentine company with a long tradition in the artisan processing of Plexiglas. Silia’s international acclaim for its luxury furnishings and home decor brought forth important collaborations with renowned designers and architects. Silia’s creative designs are crafted using high-tech machinery and hand-finished by skilled Florentine artisans. The brand’s use of Perspex, a polymethyl methacrylatewith extraordinary optical characteristics, is complemented by precious materials such as ebony, 24K gold, and python leather.

Livio De Simone created his company in the 50s and became the icon of the Capri style, with his artisan approach to production and his love for vivid colors. The new generation continues honoring this legacy, making one-of-a-kind ceramics and printing on fine fabric using the same system Livio invented to create home décor with (as he would say) “brushes of joy in every possible color.”

Il Pezzo Mancante (“the Missing Piece” in English) is an atelier that handcrafts unique and elegant pieces using solid wood, brass, mouth-blown crystal, and marble from the finest Carrara quarries. With these materials, the Florence-born Cosimo Terzani and Barbara Bertocci translate into exquisite objects their love of superior quality and timeless design.

Antonino Negri is the perfect mix of artist and artisan. His craftsmanship and his knowledge of techniques, materials, and colors allow him to create unique, poetic pieces reminiscent of the great sculptures of Arturo Marini. His ceramic works were featured in many prestigious exhibitions throughout in Italy.

Giovanna Zighetti, ceramist and set designer, and Lucia Zamberletti, fashion consultant, are respectively aunt and niece. In their ceramic laboratory surrounded by the green hills around Varese, they create unique, handcrafted pieces that reflect their love of nature and celebrate femininity in all its variations.

Wanda Fiscina’s hand-crafted ceramic sculptures have organic silhouettes combined with influences from her native Salerno and the area of Mount Vesuvius. Corals and other marine creatures, as well as the explosive power of magma inspire the themes of her powerful work. Wanda’s knowledge of craft and history makes her sculptures timeless pieces of art. Her work has been recognized internationally in the world of contemporary ceramics.

Alfio Mian established Fornace Mian in 1962. A decade later, his son Giuliano took over and this Murano glass factory now boasts a staff of 80 people and 26 furnaces. Proudly joined by his two children, Simone and Patrizia, and by world-renowned artists and designers, Giuliano continues producing art, pursuing a deep passion for glass and finely-made objects.

Born in Tel Aviv in 1978, Hagit Pincovici represents the third generation of a family of artisans, and her work has been featured in exhibitions and design magazines around the world. Her creations are made in a family-owned studio in the heart of the furniture district in Brianza. Her pieces, with their rich colors, minimalist designs, and bold structures, epitomize traditional craftsmanship and contemporary design.

Piero Mazzotti and Andri Ioannou have been making porcelain objects since 1987 in Faenza, the very center of Italian pottery production. Fos Ceramiche mixes creativity and constant experimentation to create contemporary, hand-crafted, unique objects whose precious materials and meticulously executed designs make them perfect objets d’art.

These modern and original designs are manufactured exclusively by hand, making each Guido Niest creation a precious and unique piece of art.
