Your collections’ pieces are designed by Andrea Petterini and expertly brought to life by master glassblowers. How do you select the ideal artisans to partner with to make your products?

Our products are meticulously crafted by a team of skilled glassblowers in Milan, handpicked over several years from the most reputable historic workshops in the city. These artisans possess an unmatched level of expertise that has been passed down through generations and is evident in their use of highly specialized manual techniques that are closely guarded secrets and thus we cannot discuss. We knew we were in the right place when, upon entering these workshops, we were immediately engulfed by a swirl of fumes, vapors, and glass dust - where it becomes nearly impossible to distinguish the owner and worker amidst what is seemingly chaos. These places are governed by a unique balance that arises from meticulous planning andcommitment to high-quality work, just like in the old days.

Your brand's name is inspired by the word “vün”, meaning “one” in the Milanese dialect. What is the significance behind this name?

Owning a piece from Vuun Italia not only entails indulging in a stunning décor item for your home, but it also means having an exclusive symbol of Milanese glass manufacturing culture in its purest form and an iconic design of utmost formal simplicity. The combination of these “alchemic” craftsmanship techniques and the designs of founder Andrea Petterini gives life to the Vuun Italia Collection, resulting in a unique relationship, much like that which exists between poetry and music. The idea, the design, and the desire to “take form” meet the technique that makes every idea possible and ultimately tangible. This singular design process, the unique formal simplicity of the products, the still-manual production techniques, and the infinite customization possibilities make each piece a unique work of art. Glass is the star of this collection. What specific characteristics and qualities inspired you to choose it for your collection?

The true essence of design lies in the relationship between an object and its surroundings. Oftentimes, when selecting a new “furnishing partner” over another, it is precisely the space that influences a customer's preference, because of its formal, chromatic, and material features that harmonize with the object's placement. However, glass furnishings transcend object-space constraints as their inherent transparency frees them from strict conventions and enables them to seamlessly blend into any environment. Rather than “occupying” a space, a glass object transforms it by infusing extraordinary light effects that vary with the changing direction and intensity of natural or artificial light sources.
