Founded in Milan during the 1950s by designer Piero Fornasetti, the Fornasetti brand is today an internationally recognized name in the furniture sector, specializing in the creation of hand-decorated furniture and home accessories. All creations are characterized by an imaginative, ironic and sophisticated visual language, in a balance of art and design. From porcelain to furniture to accessories, everything is handmade in the Milan studio. The decorations and the manual production techniques make each object unique.
What we did was something more than decoration: it was an invitation to the imagination
Fornasetti is an Italian decorative arts atelier founded by the artist Piero Fornasetti in Milan in the 1940s. Internationally recognized for its unique furniture and home accessories, Fornasetti is a place where art meets design, giving life to timeless creations that spark the imagination. A Fornasetti piece is not just an object to own but an experience to live and be inspired by.
In the Milan atelier, every object is still made using traditional Italian craftsmanship, from screen-printing to hand-painting. Skilled artisans follow the slow and meticulous processes of artistic creation, ensuring that each piece remains unique. This dedication to savoir-faire preserves Fornasetti’s heritage while keeping its designs relevant and timeless.
One of the atelier’s most iconic works is the "Tema e Variazioni" series, inspired by the face of opera singer Lina Cavalieri. With over 400 variations, this collection reflects Fornasetti’s surreal and whimsical aesthetic, making it a symbol of imaginative design.
Today, under the creative direction of Barnaba Fornasetti, son of Piero, the atelier continues to evolve while remaining faithful to its artistic roots. Each creation tells a story, transforming everyday objects into extraordinary works of art that celebrate beauty, creativity, and craftsmanship.
