Giordano Viganò

Designer - Lombardia, Italy

Giordano Viganò has been working wood for more than 50 years. Thank to his passion for his craft, through the years he has created custom-made, award-winning pieces of furniture to adorn private residences, as well as many prototypes that have become iconic, such as the Shiro Kuramata collection for Cappellini of 1986. The high quality of the materials, a manufacturing process that carefully follows every detail of production, and the combination of modern technology with traditional craftsmanship make these objects precious, unique, and timeless.

There are no neglectable details, because it is the totality of the details that make a work unique.

It is a very fine skin (ray or shark skin) composed of a mosaic of small cartilage spheres that must be cut and folded with millimetric precision to be applied perfectly and elegantly. In over fifty years of activity, he has become a point of reference for interior designers, companies and galleries that rely on his expertise and knowledge of wood to realise their projects and prototypes. He dedicates himself to custom projects with extreme attention to detail, even the most hidden, as in tailoring, suggesting solutions and personally developing executive drawings. The entire process of realising a product is shared with the client and this method transforms a simple request into a professional and human experience in a continuous exchange of knowledge. For the high quality of his works, in 2016 he received the Maestro d'Arte e Mestiere award from the Fondazione Cologni dei Mestieri d'Arte.

With the cabinetmaker's skill, Giordano Viganò transforms noble woods into timeless objects a living up to the present day: from classic furniture to design. Creative thinking and working techniques that combine modern technology with the wisdom of hands produce artefacts in which the fusion of design and craftsmanship is tangible. Contemporaneity and tradition, design and materials typical of haute cabinet making give shape to signature products with an unmistakable and original style. Giordano's talent and manual skills are the natural expression of an area with a vocation for craftsmanship that boasts centuries of history in woodworking: Brianza, an area that extends north of Milan to Lake Como. A special aspect of his work consists in his profound knowledge of wood in all its aspects from which hederives a careful and respectful workmanship of such a noble material. In the products of his collection, wood is not the only protagonist: in fact, it is often combined with brass, glass, bone and a particular type of leather known as Galuchat.
