Looking Around

Under the Tuscan Sun: Castiglion del Bosco

Discover Castiglion del Bosco, a 800-year-old country estate in the midst of Tuscany consisting of villas, vineyards, castle ruins and a medieval church scattered around an historic village. Get lost around the roads of the estate exploring the rich culture of the region and the wonders of the natural park, immersed in a historic atmosphere for an authentic experience.

When picturing a typical Italian landscape praised by artits, directors and writers, there's no place like the Tuscan countryside: long vineyards, rolling hills, burnt Sienna and bright green filling the eyes with natural beauty. From the celebrated wines to those idyllic walks in the fields, Tuscany almost feels like the the perfect place to make our escape dreams come true, far from the busy city rush and out of our everyday life.

Here, within the UNESCO-listed Val d'Orcia Natural park, perfectly situated in the middle of a renowned wike-making area, lies the Castiglion del Bosco country estate. Part of the exclusive Rosewood hotellerie company, a staple of luxury hospitaly in the world, the property extends for 5,000 acres and includes typical buildings like a medieval church, a small village at the heart of the resort, and even the ruins of a caslte: its guests can truly feel part of another world during their stay.

As most of the traditional Italian villages, Castiglion del Bosco has been standing for centuries on top of a strategic hill, dating back as far as one thousand years ago. Its fertile territory has been extensively cultivated for local and organic products and top quality grapes, always ensuring its owners prosperity and sustainance.

The heart of the estate lies in the Borgo, the ancient village, that today houses 23 suites and a stunning selection of luxury villas scattered around the proprierty, each with its own style and interiors. The village comes alive with its curated selection of activities such as the cookting school, the kitchen garden and two restaurants, giving the guests a taste of rustic life.

In 2003, the prestigious Ferragamo family acquired the property with a mission to preserve its ancient history, while recreating the authentic social role of the estate with a modern feel and contemporary features.

Restored from 17th- and 18th-century farmshouses, the 11 villas of Castiglion del Bosco offer the possibility of experiencing a true Tuscan stay for families and groups of friends, taking advantages of the many amenities available. Each villa has a unique feel and mood reflected on tailor-made interiors: with warm colors and soft hues perfeclty blending with the sorrounding countryside, raw materials such as wood, stone and natural textures are exposed and arranged keeping the original atmosphere present. With bespoke furniture, antique finds and authentic silverware, Chiara Ferragamo worked with designer Teresa Bürgisser Sancristoforo in carefully sourcing the best materials to reflect Tuscany's cultural heritage.

The 23 suites in the Borgo offer the comfort of a modern stay with the intention of mantaing the feeling of homes rather than hotel rooms. For this reason, it's not hard to find in every corner a piece of traditional decor, such as hand-sewn textiles, artisanal furniture and Siennes hues that complement each other perfectly.

In a land so celebrated for its rich culinary history, it's no surprise that the food expierience is highly regarded in Castiglion del Bosco. Each evening, the guests can choose between dining at Ristorante Campo del Drago, an upscale restaurant serving classic Italian dishes with modern iterpretations of the regional tradition, and the warm Osteria La Canonica, where the rustic and informal atmosphere sets the tone of family dinners and conviviality. Here, guests are presented with the opportunity of attending two-hours cooking classes in true Italian fashion, using fresh and locally-grown organic products.

Completed with a Spa, a professional golf course, a wine cellar and private pools, a stay in Castiglion del Bosco always feels highly curated and designed to fit every need. The meticulous attention reserved to maintain a historic and traditional atmosphere makes it so easy to fall in love with Tuscany and never wanting to leave.
