Since 1998, l’Opificio, a historic Turin-based company, has been producing high-quality textile creations with full respect for the environment and people. What choices in fabric selection or manufacturing techniques are key to ensuring a sustainable approach?

For us, sustainability isn’t an added value—it’s a fundamental principle. We carefully select raw materials that are free of formaldehyde and harmful substances, favoring natural, durable fibers. Our entire production process takes place in-house in Italy, following a short, transparent, vertically integrated supply chain that reduces environmental impact and guarantees ethical working conditions. Moreover, we design collections to stand the test of time, rejecting the logic of fast consumption and embracing the concept of conscious luxury.

Over the years, l’Opificio has established a strong presence in the international contract market, furnishing spaces such as restaurants, hotels, and theaters. What does it mean for you to design custom furnishings for commercial spaces?

Designing for the contract sector means blending aesthetics, performance, and functionality, while responding to the specific needs of each space. We offer bespoke solutions, tailoring fabrics and techniques to align with the architectural concept and technical requirements of each project—whether that means fire resistance, durability, or ease of maintenance. It’s a process of listening, envisioning, and executing with precision, where we support the client every step of the way to create spaces that are not only beautiful, but also true to the identity of the place and capable of offering an immersive experience to those who inhabit them.

A refined fabric has the power to completely transform the look and feel of a home. In your opinion, what are the key elements for creating a living room or bedroom that conveys elegance and sophistication?

Elegance comes from balance—between materials, colors, and textures. A fine fabric speaks without shouting: it welcomes, enhances, defines. For us, the key lies in thoughtful, harmonious personalization and a timeless sense of style. Deep-toned velvets, refined jacquard patterns, quilted throws or cushions that tell a consistent color story—details make all the difference.
