Raised between London and the British countryside, Claudia Afshar, founder of Claudia Afshar Design, is a globally acclaimed interior designer renowned for creating refined and luxurious residential, commercial, and hospitality spaces. She has been celebrated for recent projects and product developments including her award nominated rug collection with Mehraban Rugs and award winning textured multi-surface Dekton ‘Ukiyo’ collection with Cosentino.

Claudia recently joined the Board of Directors for Chateau Des Joncherets, set to debut in France next year, and served as a Master Juror for the 2024 Dezeen Awards. Sought after by elite clients and brands, she is recognized for her creativity, meticulous attention to detail, and leadership in sustainable design. With multiple new product developments and projects worldwide, Claudia continues to redefine understated luxury creating clean yet luxurious environments that remain timeless, functional and exude a sense of home.

How did you first become involved in the world of design? Tell us your story.

Design has been an intrinsic part of my life from the very beginning. Growing up, I gained hands-on experience at my mother’s award-winning interior design firm, Living in Space, while also learning the intricacies of architectural design and ground-up property development through my father’s company. These dual influences shaped my understanding of design’s transformative power and instilled a deep appreciation for creating spaces that are both innovative and timeless. As a classically trained dancer, creativity has always been central to my identity. Interior design became a natural extension of this passion-a medium through which I could channel my artistic sensibilities into crafting environments that inspire and uplift. This unique combination of heritage, discipline, and creativity forms the cornerstone of my design philosophy.

How do you balance aesthetics and functionality in your projects?

As a luxury interior design and architecture studio, we believe that true beauty lies in the seamless integration of aesthetics and functionality. To fully enjoy a space, it must not only captivate visually but also perform effortlessly and stand the test of time. Our approach is thoughtful and intentional, blending rich textures, refined color palettes, and bespoke furnishings to create environments that are as practical as they are exquisite. Every detail is carefully curated to ensure each space achieves a harmonious balance – a celebration of form and function in perfect unity.

Is there a dream project you aspire to work on?

Collaborating on projects across the globe allows my team and me to showcase our expertise in a diverse spectrum of styles, from contemporary to traditional. One of our most exciting current endeavors is the restoration and design of a Château in France- a project that beautifully combines heritage and innovation. This is just the beginning. Our vision extends far beyond, with plans to develop exclusive product lines and take on extraordinary residential, commercial, and hospitality projects worldwide. Each opportunity allows us to redefine spaces with a tailored, versatile approach, elevating every design to reflect the distinctive vision and character of the project.
