Made of solid Italian larch and charred, this side table uses the technique of charring timber: the ancient Japanese technique of Shou Sugi Ban. This method, which is ecological and completely natural, protects the wood by making the surface waterproof. The charring lends a luster and smoothness to the table surface, creating a perfect backdrop for one's home. The table has been shaped in this preliminary form using a chainsaw. Due to handcrafting, patterns and sizes may vary slightly in each item. This piece is currently on show and immediately available at Artemest Galleria New York.

Discovering the Artisan

Coralla Maiuri

Lazio, Italy | Ceramist

Editor's Picks

My primary language is accompanied by a precious aesthetic, like a gem sparkling on a beaten earth floor. My plates, and everything I create, are an encounter between the golden vitality of Roman Baroque and my childhood memories of the countryside

Coralla Maiuri is a Roman artist and designer, recognized for her capacity of mixing a world of vibrant colors, light and forms into artistic objects thought and imagined for everyday use. Born in Mexico to an Italian father and a Polish mother, the actress Irasema Dilian, Coralla spent her childhood in the countryside of Lazio and later attended high school in Rome. From a young age, she demonstrated an innate talent for working with clay and oil colors.

Her works are full of color, with iridescent reflections, almost like landscapes of the soul, radiating a pure and intimate light. Her artistic style seamlessly blends diverse forms of expression—porcelain, fabrics, silks, and precious metal applications—into a visionary tapestry that harmoniously merges fashion, art, and design. Coralla's renowned porcelains seem to have fallen from the sky or emerged from the earth. Plates, bowls, pitchers, vases, jars, and centerpieces preserve childhood memories of the countryside, combined with the energy of Roman Baroque, which silently influenced her as a young person growing up in Rome. Since 2017, Coralla Maiuri has been an artisanal company based in Rome, founded by Coralla and her husband Filippo in collaboration with a team of skilled artisans as well as their sons. Each piece is delicately hand-decorated, giving birth to true works of art. Porcelain, noble and precious, becomes the soul of these creations, carrying with it the tradition and elegance typical of Italian craftsmanship. Every detail takes shape through the dedication of the artisans who, with patience and expertise, make the creations unique and inimitable. In its splendid imperfection, each object radiates a unique and magical essence.

Coralla's cushions are a celebration of creativity, vibrant imagination, and the joy of living, brought to life through daring color experimentation. Her coffee tables boast a truly distinctive character, handcrafted from steel with a playful and original design. Custom made to any desired size, each table becomes a unique statement piece adding a bold and personal touch to any home. Whether it's a porcelain piece, a silk velvet cushion, or a handmade coffee table in steel, Coralla's creations bring a radiant burst of light, infusing any space with presence and unique identity.
