Signora Luna

Ceramist - Calabria, Italy

Italian architect Giovanna Sposato worked as a restorator for 15 years, mastering the ancient gilding technique of gold leaf. She launched the "Signora Luna" design project blending ancient craftsmanship with innovative design concepts. Sposato's handmade objects are decorated using the millenary gold-leaf gilding method using local materials and skilled craftspeople. Reflecting a seamless fusion of past and present, her work aims to stimulate collective awareness of our heritage while creating singular pieces that speak to our creative psyche.

My working approach draws inspiration from traditions, art, nature and ancient processing techniques. The object understood, as no longer a silent object.

GIOVANNA SPOSATO studied architecture in Florence and then worked for fifteen years in the field of restoration, specializing in the ancient technique of gilding. She has given birth to a design project "SIGNORA LUNA" that blends the skillful ancient techniques of working with
artifacts, with the concept of design innovation. Stimulating collective consciousness about what the past has handed down to us. Ancient arts, materials from Mother Earth meet and are shaped with the gold leaf technique, giving birth to the collection, a fusion of past and
present. Objects unique in inspiration and creativity, entirely decorated by hand.
SIGNORA LUNA creates objects with an exclusively handcrafted, Made in Italy production process, recognizable especially for the final stage, using the ancient gold leaf technique. The art of gilding has a millennial tradition, made of technique and experience in this way, gold
becomes a fundamental element of the production process, a slow process that almost like a ritual, leads to explore and imagine a creative world between past and contemporary. Design and creativity come together in the pursuit of craft experimentation. A unique conception
where the material, shapes, style and visible tactile quality of the object's surface, strictly handmade, creates an interesting fusion making the object unique and valuable in its exclusivity.
Moreover, the sense of the project is to create a strong relationship with the local area, with local workers and materials, always with a new and current vision, and to make objects created to be not only functional, but able to communicate empathetically with people.
