MEET THE DESIGNER

Interior Architect Rania Hamed is the founder of multiple award-winning boutique firm VSHD Design based in Dubai and Montreal. She is known for her innovative interiors and the outstanding quality of her designs, ensuring her visualizations are not trend-led but instead synonymous with timelessness and longevity. Hamed’s projects are based on strong design concepts and great attention to detail. She is fascinated by the challenge of integrating traditional culture and technique into contemporary design and strives to introduce this dichotomy in her work.

VSHD Design believes that as both architects and interior architects creatives, the studio’s role is to transform and re-purpose the space and breathe new life into it. With each project, they combine modesty with elegance, to reach elements of calm, beauty, and subtle luxury. The firm specializes in both residential and commercial space and has completed projects across the world, from Florida to London, Cairo, Amman, Dubai, and Abu Dhabi.

The Dining Room Concept

The dining room by VSHD Design proposes a dialogue between modernist and baroqueaesthetics, staged around a dinner table setting. Within this conceptual space, the heavily ornamented baroque walls and ceiling engage in a conversation with the sleek, clean-lined modern furniture designed by iconic modernist designers. This creates an atmosphere that invites visitors to contemplate this evident contrast and the connections between two distinct design traditions.

Throughout the design process, the focus of VSHD Design was on blending the historical opulence of the residence with the minimalist sophistication of modernist design. This involved favoring pieces known for functionality and simplicity, while avoiding intricate designs. Inspired by Adolf Loos' philosophy, which suggests that quality material and craftsmanship make ornamentation redundant, the design aimed for a seamless integration of historical richness with contemporary elegance.

VSHD Design has created a unique setting, evoking nostalgia for the past and excitement for the present. Through the exploration of the space, visitors can visualize this rich dialogue, experiencing the harmonious coexistence of two eras. This immersive experience aims to leave visitors feeling inspired, enlightened, and enriched.
