In the rolling hills around Lake Como in Italy, where the sun sparkles on the water, master craftsmen have been creating exceptional furniture for centuries.
With the experience of seven generations of furniture makers, the Barzaghi family are masters in the highly competitive Italian luxury furniture market—dedicated to excellence and artistry, and at the top of their game.
Yet, the story of Biosofa is more than just a continuation of tradition—it’s a journey of transformation, driven by a deep sense of purpose and an optimistic vision for a sustainable future.
Davide Barzaghi, the son of the house, spent countless hours in the family workshops, playing with wooden blocks as a child, but also watching his father Danilo and grandfather Aimo shape furniture with skill and care, blending timeless techniques with unwavering precision. These early experiences instilled in him a profound respect for the craft—but also a growing awareness of its impact on the world.
As Davide pursued his studies, he delved into the concept of life-cycle assessment. It was a startling revelation: even the finest, most luxurious sofas contain petroleum-based foam, synthetic materials, and chemical substances that compromise air quality and harm the environment. This realization shook the very foundations of what he had always known. Beauty on the outside was not enough any more. Davide began to plan the transformation of the family business.
Becoming a father deepened his commitment to leave a legacy—not just of elegance and beauty, but of responsibility—a sustainable future for the family and the planet. He understood that the time had come to rethink everything—from sourcing and materials to the methods of production.
