Britt Moran and Emiliano Salci are the duo behind the renowned Milan based architecture and design firm Dimorestudio. Founded in 2003, it has emerged as one of the world's most in-demand interiors firms, collaborating with fashion houses like Hermès, Bottega Veneta and Fendi as well as the hoteliers Ian Schrager and Thierry Costes. The duo has also decorated the iconic house on the Avenue Junot in Paris built by the Austrian architect Adolf Loos for Tristan Tzara, the poet and Dada founder, in 1924.

The 19th-century location of Via Solferino in Milan’s Brera district is the heart of the business as well as the home of Dimoregallery, an evocative setting which features a rotating installation featuring great masters of the 20th century and contemporary designers, championed by the Gallery.

Moran, who first visited Italy as a college student, grew up in North Carolina and has the air of a courtly Southern gentleman. He was a graphic designer when he first met Salci in 2003, who had recently left his job as creative director for Cappellini. The common thread in their biographies is that both of their families owned small furniture businesses; so it was something of a double homecoming when Moran and Salci started producing innovative designs in 2005. Their story began in the same Milan location where Dimorestudio currently operates and it developed and grew – year after year – thanks to a skillful combination of decoration, objects, modern art, prestigious mid-century pieces, and finally, elements and spaces that they designed and produced themselves.

Over the last decade, Dimorestudio has become known for creating interiors with a very personal, signature style characterized by a moody palette, a complex mixture of historical periods and unexpected choices. Their mutual respect for history is perhaps what most informs their aesthetic. In the spaces thought up by Salci and Moran, vintage pieces by design masters live together with eclectic objects to forge very unique atmospheres.

The word ‘Dimore’ in Italian means dwelling but conjures up images of old villas clinging to their aristocratic origins. It lends the name a sense of nostalgia. I think it’s our DNA: we take a historical approach to a project to give it some roots, then we inject it with more of a contemporary feel.

Dimoremilano, officially founded in 2019, is the label housing the furniture, fabric, decorative and home collections by Dimorestudio. Rooted in Milan’s international reputation for prestigious design and relying on a network of Italy’s best traditional artisans and manufacturers, Dimoremilano nods to the country’s craft culture while boldly pushing it forward. Their pieces have a stunning futuristic look, becoming instant icons with their eclectic shapes and strong use of color.

With a masterful use of different materials, each piece is eye-catching and unique. From sculptural décor to striking patterns, Dimoremilano collections add a sophisticated touch to any interiors, be it minimalist or modern eclectic.
