Designer Nina Magon was inspired by the intricate ceilings and architectural details of Gio Ponti's historic Milanese villas for her showstopping room at this year's Kips Bay Decorator Show House in Palm Beach, Florida. The annual fundraiser aimed at design enthusiasts, running from April 8th through May 9th 2021, has established a tradition for showcasing the talent of some of America's finest interior designers.

Known for her high-glam, contemporary aesthetic, Magon instilled her passion for Italian design into her "Camera da Letto della Contessa" (The Countess’ Bedroom).

"While in Milan last year, I toured some of Gio Ponti's landmarked private homes and was inspired by the ceilings and classical moldings that contributed to the beauty of his interiors. When approaching the design of the Contessa’s bedroom, I incorporated all of these classical elements and merged them into a modern and futuristic design with distinguished furniture pieces."

Magon envisioned the young, fair-haired Italian Contessa as the image in the Horst photograph from Holden Luntz Gallery, retreating to her bedroom in her Italianate Palm Beach villa longing for her lost love.

The key room elements include a central lighting fixture which functions as a hybrid between lighting and sculpture and was done in collaboration with Studio M of Maxim Lighting. The bedroom has been architecturally designed in its entirety including the built-in platform bed.

Pieces by Artemest artisans accent the room's Italian feel with three handmade bubble vases by CuoreCarpenito and a white leather side table by Stéphane Parmentier for Giobagnara.
