The Artisans

Self-taught sculptor Alessandro Rametta founded La Fucina di Efesto (Hephaestus’ Forge) in Milan in 1997. Guided by a pioneering approach to the art of metalworking, Rametta has always been devoted to exploring creative applications of this expressive material, using new sculptural and pictorial techniques to shape this expressive material. His creations come to life with the contribution of designer Andrea Capriotti and the entire workshop team and stand out for their exquisite balance of art, design, and architecture.

Mario Sambuco established his eponymous brand at the end of the 1950s, following the footsteps of his father Luigi who has a deep knowledge of Deruta-style ceramics. Since the ‘80s, Mario’s sons Lucio and Luca took up the family business, creating new designs thanks to constant research and experimenting with precious finishes such as gold, silver, and platinum. Sambuco keeps alive traditional techniques by rigorously maintaining handcraftsmanship at the core of production, receiving the prestigious Primo Concorso tra Ceramisti in Deruta prize in 1991.

Born in Torino and living in Firenze, Daniele Nannini has been an illustrator and author of many children books published in Italy and abroad, particularly dedicated to projects involving visual creations. In recent years, he has started painting and sculpting life-like ceramic objects that possess an expressive, eclectic quality. Focusing on the connection between man and nature, Nannini’s subjects create an idyllic landscape without the human element prevailing over nature, rendered with powerful and elegant volumes.

Mauro Varotti is the owner of his eponymous furniture firm specialized in marquetry and exquisite inlaid works located in Rimini, a historic town along the Adriatic coast. Varotti’s tremendous passion for his job gives life to his creations, unique objects of art that take center stage in any refined home. He established the artistic brand Intarsia after meeting with antique art and jewelry dealer Massimo Giorgi, who owns a gallery in the nearby town of Cattolica.

Based in Ravenna, ROU Materiaal is a furniture firm established in 2013 by Marzia De Lorenzi and Monica Cortesi, artists who share a strong passion for art, design, and the city of Paris. The firm’s name derives from Afrikaans meaning “raw material”, highlighting the brand’s distinctive style that connects "primitive" materials to a deep study of contemporary shapes and textures using resins, acrylics, stucco, and cement. Their sculpture-tables and hand-painted fabrics are manufactured in Italy from salvaged woods of century-old trees that find new life in a modern home.

Michela Nardin founded MNMVenezia in 2017 after an illustrious career as an artist in Rome and Venice. Drawn to the unconventional and bestowed with an artistic spirit, Nardin pursued various art forms. She moved to Venice over 24 years ago and fell in love with the city’s glass and mosaics tradition: there, she perfected her artistic knowledge with the help of master craftsmen. Using glass from the historic Orsoni Furnace, she crafts mosaics in small collections inspired by different passions, exploring places and stories in a unique, refreshing, and personal way.

Nature, tradition, and design are the core of Biosofa: a company founded by Davide Barzaghi, with offices in Monza and Brianza. It is the only manufacturer in Europe to produce 100% natural and plastic-free contemporary sofas. All products are handmade in the local area, close to Milan and each creation is made individually, free of toxins and plastic. Biosofa represents the perfect combination of design, Italian manufacturing tradition and respect for the environment and for our planet.

GRILLI s.r.l. is the daughter company of F.LLI GRILLI, founded in 1963 by Giorgio and Giovanni Grilli in the small Tuscan town of Perignano, near Pisa. The Grilli brothers started their business in a small workshop near their home, specializing in handcrafted furniture with a distinct classic aesthetic. Deeply rooted in the history and tradition of Italian cabinetmaking, Grilli’s collections are distinguished for their exquisite craftsmanship, quality materials, and architectural silhouettes that will perfectly complement any decor.

Stefano Gerini is an eponymous interior design workshop based in the historic heart of Florence. Founded in 1980 by Stefano and Anna Gerini, the brand draws inspiration from the architectural grandeur of Florentine basilicas, creating furniture, decorative panels, and accent pieces. Gerini uses repurposed wood, salvaged and reimagined with novel decorative elements. Gerini uses traditional Florentine lacquers and waxes to give each piece a distinctive appearance and charm that harmoniously integrates into any decor.

Established in the 1930s by Ernesto Spini in the heart of Florence, this eponymous brand embodies traditional Florentine hand-craftsmanship. Ernesto began his career as a sculptor and later specialized in woodcarving, two mediums that remain the specialty of this family-run business, now at its third generation. In the workshop in Scandicci, by Florence, Spini’s creatives and artisans constantly experiment while also maintaining a strong link with the past, making high-quality home décor and furniture pieces.

Established in 2017, OliveLab is a manufacturing and consulting firm with a mission to create innovative and technology-driven lighting solutions for contemporary living. OliveLab views light as a fundamental resource that can be revealed through creative design and novel aesthetics: their resulting poetic yet functional style is distinguished by meticulous attention to detail, materials, and crafting processes.

Gaia Di Paola studied Architecture in Rome and worked as a fashion designer for internationally renowned brands. After taking several crafting courses at St. Martin’s College of Arts & Design in London, she discovered her passion in combining art and fashion. She later established her eponymous brand GAIADIPAOLA, creating precious hand-painted and hand-embroidered home textiles. Working between Rome and London, her pieces express both the eclectic energy of a modern metropolis and the rich Italian tradition of hand-craftsmanship.

Chiara Terraneo was born in 1984 in Cantù, in the heart of the cabinetmaking district near Milan. She studied Graphic Design at the New Academy of Fine Arts (NABA) and Photography at the R. Bauer School, both in Milan. While traveling the world, she started a career as freelance visual storyteller, using different mediums to express her unique point of view. In her collection of home textiles, she combines her curiosity and her talent to create exquisite accents for modern interiors.

Salvino Marsura is an Italian artist born in Treviso in 1938. His career started in the ‘50s, with a body of work comprising small and large-scale sculptures, as well as furniture and architectural elements. He has always crafted his pieces by hand using the forge, the anvil, and the hammer, following in the footsteps of the greatest blacksmiths tradition. With force and wits, his creativity infuses character and soul into all his unique art pieces.

Established in the captivating Tuscan countryside of Sovicille (Siena), Antique Mirror is a brand specialized in the artisanal production of flat glass. For over forty years, Antique Mirror has distinguished itself for research and innovation in glassmaking techniques, developing oxidation processes and patented processes for vintage sheets and mosaic tiles that follow old traditions and infuse them with modern design appeal. Eugenia Pinna grew up in Nule, a Sardinian hamlet with a strong textile tradition, and graduated at the European Institute of Design in Cagliari. In her workshop she combines her knowledge of local materials and her impeccable execution of ancient artisanal skills with innovative crafting methods, a distinctive personality, and a refined sense for colors.
