Tables-sculpture in solid wood, with preponderant materiality, with surfaces that recall stones. Handcrafted in Italy. Design between the primitive and the contemporary.

ROU MATERIAAL

ROU Materiaal was born in 2013 from the desire of Marzia De Lorenzi and Monica Cortesi to explore the world of "making with hands" and unleash yet unexpressed creativity of theirs, experimenting with it on various materials, for custom projects. Surfaces become a research ground. Research and experimentation focus on solid wood boards. Resins and acrylics are the main medium, to which plaster and concrete are added over time. ROU Materiaal's worked surfaces evoke stones. The link between a "primitive" material world and the search for contemporary forms and textures represents the common thread of ROU Materiaal's poetics.

Rou Materiaal designs and handcrafts, in Italy, unique art-design pieces with eclectic uses. The sculpture-tables and wooden sculptures start from the research of woods from centuries-old Italian trees felled because diseased or dead on their feet; the woods are treated in such a way as to combine the use of techniques that enhance the veins or natural imperfections with others that give a more contemporary texture, such as fire, sands, gilding, resins.

Since the birth of ROU Materiaal, Marzia and Monica have developed a very personal technique that is constantly evolving. The technique draws its roots from the technique of restoration on the one hand and the art of Chinese lacquer on the other, re-interpreted in a contemporary key.
