Perched above Florence in the storied hills of Fiesole, Villa San Michele, A Belmond Hotel, Florence reopens after an extensive restoration, unveiling a refined vision of hospitality rooted in wellness, artistry, and mindful living. This Renaissance-era sanctuary blends historic grandeur with contemporary sensibility, offering an immersive retreat that celebrates Tuscan craftsmanship, nature, and the art of slow living.

Suspended between sky and city, Villa San Michele, A Belmond Hotel, Florence has long been a destination where history and beauty converge. Now, following an 18-month restoration, the former monastery reemerges with renewed purpose, one that places holistic well-being and conscious living at its core. Its iconic façade, inspired by Michelangelo Buonarroti, remains a defining landmark, while the interiors have been thoughtfully reimagined to reflect both the soul of the Renaissance and the rhythm of modern life.

Inside, 39 newly redesigned rooms and suites pay homage to Tuscany’s rich artisanal heritage. Conceived by Luigi Fragola Architects, the spaces are layered with bespoke furnishings, antique pieces, and works by contemporary Italian artists. From hand-painted frescoes to scagliola surfaces and Carrara marble details, each room unfolds as a narrative of craftsmanship and place. Signature suites, such as La Limonaia with its private pool, or the Grand Tour suite once associated with Napoleon Bonaparte, capture the spirit of travel, contemplation, and timeless elegance.

Wellness finds its most refined expression in the Villa’s new Spa by Guerlain, an intimate sanctuary inspired by centuries of spiritual retreat. Here, treatments blend science and ritual, offering deeply personalized experiences that restore balance and vitality. Beyond the spa, the estate’s terraced gardens, spanning over 10,000 square meters, invite quiet exploration among citrus groves, rose pergolas, and panoramic viewpoints over Florence. These grounds, rooted in the humanistic ideal of otium, encourage a slower, more intentional way of inhabiting time.

Spaces dedicated to meditation, yoga, and sound healing foster a deeper connection between body, nature, and spirit. Through seasonal retreats and curated experiences, the Villa transforms into more than a destination: it becomes a living dialogue between past and present, where the art of Italian living is both preserved and reimagined for a new era.
