Looking Around

Terre di Sacra, Capalbio

Discover Terre di Sacra, a magic estate established in 1922 in a vast area that stretches from the southernmost point of Tuscany along the coastline for 12 Km. Once a wild and marshy land, today an extraordinary oasis that perfectly integrates with the natural landscape and surrounding territory. To live and breath the unique air and spirit of this land, stay in one of Terre di Sacra's exclusive villas and cottages.

Capalbio is a romantic medieval town nestled between the southern Tuscan hills and the sea with endless hectares of wild landscapes and untouched nature. Perched on top of a hill, the town is built around the eighth-century Castle of Capalbio, first annexed to the Republic of Siena and later under the influence of the Spanish Empire, attracted to the nearby Lake of Burano, that built the Capalbio Tower still visible from the sea.

On the shore of this village find Terre di Sacra, a unique estate compromised of over twenty charming villas and cottages in southern Tuscan style that grant the perfect stay to discover the area and enjoy a sun-filled vacation.

Terre di Sacra was established in 1922 by a group of friends after acquiring the territory, with the aim of protecting and honoring this land in the most respectful way. While the area was wild and inhospitable, the owners were not discouraged and worked for over a decade in the renovation and preservation of the shore, the hills and the nearby farm and agricultural land. In 1968, after the completion of the works, the owners helped establish the Oasis of Lake of Burano, the first WWF Natural Reserve in Italy, to further safeguard the unique landscape of the area.

Today the estate consists of 23 villas and cottages scattered along 12 kilometres of seashore that can be rented; a glamping site and an exclusive beach club located in one of the many golden sand beaches of Capalbio, La Dogana, where to dine bear foot enjoying a view of the wild beach and the crystal clear sea.

Terre di Sacra's villas and cottages are surrounded by 1000 hectares of wild, preserved land and enjoy a private access to the beach to grant a holiday that lies around nature and a slow living approach. All villas and cottages have been renovated in a charming southern Tuscany style, with an emphasis on original pieces and the use of prized, but simple materials such as bamboo, linen, straw, metal, wood and cotton. Upon arrival, guests are treated to a baskets of local goods: vegetables, fruit and spices from the garden, oil and honey produced at Terre di Sacra, and for those who wish it is possible to receive organic Maremmana cow meat.

The common thread that unites the different proprieties is the atmosphere you breath in them; here the ultimate luxury is simplicity, a timeless place where to fully appreciate the beauty of nature; a wild nature that at times recalls the African nature, maybe because of the unique fire red sunsets that can be enjoyed in this part of Tuscany.

Moving towards the sea and the golden sand beaches, located on a strip of land facing the southernmost corner of the Tuscan sea and surrounded by soft sand dune find La Dogana Beach Club. The perfect blend of hospitality, love and attention to detail: here you can enjoy excellent food cooked with local ingredients overlooking the crystal clear sea and surrounded by the scent of the Mediterranean scrub.

Thanks to the collaboration with the architect Fabio Cialfa, the structure already known to the visitors of the area, has been completely renovated and deeply modified, giving life to a unique project: a wonderful terrace overlooking the sea where to enjoy a seafood a la cart menu by Chef Francesco Rivoglia, cocktails or something simple at the bistro, all curated by the Michelin star-awarded restaurant company Gruppo Enoteca la Torre that has just recently taken over La Dogana.

At Terre di Sacra, guests can take advantage of the stunning natural landscape and culturally rich surroundings for a number of activities focused on ecotourism and preservation of nature. Excursions follow paths running along the Lake of Burano to reach observation hides with the help of local guides, where is possible to observe local flora and fauna.

In the surrounding territory, visitors have countless leisure opportunities: from the sea to the hills to the mountains, water sports and local food and wine, all connected to the amazing cultural heritage of the region ready to be discovered and never forgotten.
