Bull Dog by Bruno Munari - Main view

In the 1930s in the kilns of Albisola, Filippo Tommaso Marinetti, together with other prominent members of the Futurist Movement and in collaboration with the Mazzotti family, created a line of ceramic vessels that embodied the Futurist aesthetic. These precious collector's items are still being reproduced today, using the same designs, the same passion, materials and techniques by Tullio Mazzotti, the fourth generation of the Mazzotti ceramists. Discovering the Artisan

Simone Crestani

Veneto, Italy | Glassmith

Editor's Picks

I admire nature, it fills me with awe and inspires me to give form to my works. I am an artisan first, before being an artist.

Born in 1984 in Marostica, a town located in the region of Venice, Simone Crestani began working with glass at the age of 15 at Massimo Lunardon’s glass factory. After a long apprenticeship, he opened his own studio, continuing to evolve through research and innovation. An introspective and self-taught artist, he brings together technique and poetry creating a very personal and recognizable language. His style is distinguished by the use of transparent glass, emphasized by the thousands of natural shades it possesses. In his workmanship, blown elements are merged together with many other sculptural techniques creating large objects at the same time curated in the smallest details. Inspired by the infinite variety of the natural world, the forms of animals and plants are crystallized, in a celebration of lightness and life itself. His sophisticated technique and poetics allow him to create works in which glass transcends its purely material dimension, becoming fine and curated, transforming into a pure and silent conceptual element. In both the plastic arts and in the world of Italian design, Crestani is regarded as a young luminary with a compelling and diverse body of work. Other than exhibiting in some of the most important initiatives related to the glass and art world, he is also regularly invited as a visiting artist and instructor by prestigious art academies and glass schools all over the world. Among his most recent projects is the opening of a permanent personal gallery in Venice, where he creates a chamber of wonders that houses all his works in a magical atmosphere with exclusive objects, sculptures and design pieces.
