Knibb Design Contemporary Interiors

Discover the unique style of Los Angeles-based interior design studio Knibb Design, founded by Sean Knibb. The sophisticated use of materials and the refined color combinations used by Knibb Design define modern and captivating interiors.

As the fearless leader behind Knibb Design Corp., one of Los Angeles’ most prominent and progressive design studios, Sean Knibb’s projects range from restaurants – including the transformation of an IHOP into the multi-award-winning A-Frame, to bars, corporate and commercial interiors, residential estates, resort grounds, furniture, gardens, and art. From his native Montego Bay, Jamaica, Sean’s informal training beg an at the age of five while cultivating anthuriums in the garden behind his grandparent’s flower shop. The interplay between the nature of the tropics and the colonial formality of his childhood home have cultivated a refined understanding of the juxtaposition of the wild, organic beauty of nature and the restrained geometry of the man-made. That sensibility lead Knibb to seek formal training at Otis Parsons School of the Arts and then, at the age of 23, to open his own design/build firm. The firm quickly grew to become a leader in design, winning large commissions and multiple awards.

What does 'made in Italy' mean to you?

‘Made in Italy’ usually means, to me, that there is a certain amount of whimsicalness in the process behind the craft and product.

Who/What has inspired the most your work and style?

Jay Griffith, Philippe Starck and Gertrude Jekyll

It is important that all of the spaces that we design have the feeling of the human touch, in the specific details of the core and shell to impart the handmade element of the design

Describe your design approach and philosophy.

To listen, observe, create and elevate. To interlace our current social narrative into our designs and elevate the unexpected. Working with ordinary objects and weaving them into the design to create something extra-ordinary. Lastly, to approach design with openness, sensitivity and awareness of what a space needs and having the skill of knowing how to provide it.

What is the one design/decor you cannot imagine your clients (or yourself) living without?

Nature.

What is your idea of the 'Ultimate Luxury'?

Time.
