L'Appartamento

The Bedroom by Styled Habitat

Discover the bedroom of L’Appartamento curated by Styled Habitat for Artemest. The goal of the Dubai based studio was to create an atmosphere resemblant of the romantic style of the 1930’s by showcasing an evocative narrative and celebrating the versatile range of Italian craftsmanship and techniques through an eclectic mix of furniture and dècor.

MEET THE DESIGNER

Rabah Saeid, founder and creative director of Styled Habitat, a Dubai based studio, is an American Sudanese designer creating multi-faceted, experiential, residential, commercial and cultural projects. Saeid is regionally recognized with distinctive design awards and numerous publications.

Environments that stimulate sensory experience is at the heart of Saeid’s design approach. The exploration of materiality, color, forms and the juxtaposition of contemporary and vintage, architectural and organic are all aspects that curate a wealth of experiences into every space that she creates. Saeid believes that respecting the context of history, location, architecture is all very imperative to pushing the boundaries and challenging rules.

At Styled Habitat we possess an insatiable curiosity for textures and materials, blending raw with refined, layering with intention and integrating furniture from various time periods to achieve a perfect curation of comfortable, relaxed, and intimate environments.

STYLED HABITAT

The Bedroom Concept

At Styled Habitat, all of the projects begin by understanding the context in which the space is situated to preserve the unique significance of every space. For L'Appartamento, Styled Habitat delved into the history of the 1930s to re-piece the history and translate that into an interior concept that resonates with today's audience. The studio’s goal was to create an atmosphere resemblant of the romantic style of the 1930’s by showcasing an evocative narrative celebrating the versatile range of Italian craftsmanship and techniques through an eclectic mix of furniture, lighting and décor.

To capture the experimental and avant-garde trends of European modernism, Styled Habitat juxtaposed new and old classics, such as the Czech Black Chair by Gebrüder Thonet Vienna and the Tula Tall Bronze Bookcase by Albedo, with organic handcrafted decor seen through the Calle Pinzi Murano Glass Chandelier by Luci Italia and sculptured figurines in the Her Side Table by Badari and the Fauno Torso Bronze Sculpture by Galleria Romanelli giving a sense of timeless glamor. The art selectionrepresents the rise of abstract art against traditional religious paintings, as demonstrated in the Untitled Oil Paintings by Adriano Annino. While the color palette draws inspiration from the broader international influences during that time, it’s possible to see a reflection of rich hues inspired by the fall of the Ottoman Empire and hints of gold reflecting subtle references of orientalism as the western world became more aware of Far East and middle eastern styles through the growing accessibility of air travel.

Being situated in Dubai and being far removed from the beauty of historical architecture we wanted to celebrate and showcase the building's history, while creating an atmosphere that blends a wide range of cultural influences and styles - an atmosphere that is rich in visual narrative and sophistication.
