Overlooking the enchanting shores of Lake Como, Villa Làrio is the perfect destination for a romantic lakeside getaway. Discover the authentic Italian “dolce vita” and enjoy the splendor of this historical 19th century Palazzo, surrounded by lush gardens in a relaxed atmosphere.
Harmoniously nestled between the hills and the lake, Villa Làrio is an exclusive boutique hotel located in Pognana Lario, a small hamlet near Como. The intimate lakeside retreat is hidden off the beaten path, in a quiet spot away from city bustle and it extends over two acres of gardens and historical constructions.
The large 19th century property was formerly owned by Lombardi family and includes many gems of classical architecture: Il Palazzo is the most authentic and characteristic, thanks to its stunning location overlooking the lake; fully restored, Villa Bianca is perched over a cliff, with a unique orientation offering a sun-bathed day long scenery; the Pavilion and the Garden Suites are two private villas nestled in the lake front historical gardens.
You can’t help but marvel at the stunning lake views offered by Villa Làrio, giving a uniquely smooth and relaxing atmosphere where nature is the main character. The beauty of wild nature, typical of this lush territory, is interspersed with historical architectures, majestic traces of human genius through the ages. This is the special background that defines the Villa’s personality.
Villa Làrio was born over ten years ago, from the passionate dream of the current owners that decided to embark on the conservative renovation of the first abandoned villa, lasted over 8 years and completed respecting the harmony of the surrounding environment. They later took care of the other architectures with the same spirit, connecting all the buildings with a panoramic lift, invisible from the lake and the road not to affect the beautiful landscape.
Inside Villa Làrio, a convincing air of classical grandeur forms the backdrop to modern design, with a purposefully minimalist décor. All the rooms are kept mostly monochrome, using a minimal palette to enhance the historical architectural details, such as the precious Venetian floors and the ancient stone fireplaces in the lounge areas.
The jewel in the crown of this lakeside retreat is, no doubt, the landscape. Defining a new standard of luxury, each suite enjoys a staggering view of the surrounding lake whose colors, from teal to blue, are reflected by large windows and glossy materials. Breathtaking glimpses of private landscapes and gracefully refined gardens with magnificent century-old trees are further decorated with infinity pools between cliffs and the lake water and modern examples of craftsmanship such as the bronze sculpture “Le temps qui passe”, realized by the French artist Nathalie Decoster.
The experience at Villa Làrio is completed by the chef’s culinary masterpieces: at the restaurant the guest can taste exceptional Italian ingredients combined with a unique panorama and the privilege of suspended time. Young and talented, Alex Visconti creates tasteful seasonal menus focused on key Italian ingredients, worked using traditional cooking methods of the region with a contemporary twist.
The beautiful Belvedere welcomes guests and offers the backdrop for an authentic aperitivo, surrounded by one of the best natural sceneriesof Italy.
The region offers many memorable experiences, from boat tours of the magnificent Lario Lake, called by Virgil ‘the greatest lake’, to a relaxing sunbath on the private pontoon of the Villa. The boutique hotel is the perfect starting point to visit the beautiful hamlets on the lake, exploring the region and discovering the most authentic Italian atmospheres.
Villa Làrio is a place full of history and charm, brimming with curious details and fascinating stories. To taste the real essence of this exclusive destination, you need to reach the very foundations of the Palace, where a precious secret is closely guarded.
A large shed carved into the rock hides three magnificent vintage wooden boats, amazing artworks and examples of the finest Italian craftsmanship, built in the most famous shipyards in the region. The view is open to all, as the public toilets of the palace overlook this magical place.
