What does "Made in Italy" mean to you?

This phrase or mark conjures a sense of tradition, excellence and pride.

Who/what has inspired the most your work and style?

I am inspired by designers who solve problems holistically, mastering the understanding that all aspects and layers of a project work together to achieve an atmosphere, a feeling that is embodied by the final product. The country villas of Palladio were an early inspiration. Later, the bold details of Carlo Scarpa and Gio Ponti, Piero Portaluppi’s Villa Necchi.

Describe your design approach and philosophy.

I try to make my approach holistic. Whether we speak of interiors, architecture or furniture, I believe that successful design is the result of a customized, intelligent and collaborative process. I draw upon a range of historical precedents to create environments that balance eclecticism and comfort. My studio’s design philosophy values richness, selectivity and restraint expressed through clean lines, supple textures and a judicious use of color. We often combine custom pieces from our inventory with vintage items and contemporary works from other dealers.

What is the one design/decor you cannot imagine your clients (or yourself) livingwithout?

Great lighting – fixtures that are functional yet imaginative in their forms and inspiring intheir materials.

What is your idea of the ‘ultimate luxury”?

Unimpeded mobility – the ability to go, at anytime, to where I want, with those I love.

Good design is enduring design – elegant with a clear point of view, inseparable from the quality of its execution. Design divorced from craftsmanship is little more than an idea.
